The Y unveils new strategy to further community impact

Dear Y Friends,

The YMCA of the USA unveiled a new brand strategy to increase understanding of the impact that YMCAs make in the communities they serve. The YMCA addresses many of the challenges facing families and communities today. The new strategy and framework will help us to better communicate our mission, our cause and the positive impact of the Y in our communities.

Our mission remains the same: We are a nonprofit, charitable organization that is part of a worldwide association based on Christian principles, inclusive of all people, dedicated to fostering opportunities for all individuals, families and communities through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

At the Y, strengthening the foundations of community is our cause. We will continue to engage members, volunteers, donors, staff, and others in:
 - Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen
 - Healthy Living: Improving the nation's health and well-being
 - Social Responsibility: Giving back and providing support to our neighbors

The new brand strategy is the result of more than two years of analysis and research. It will change how we talk about ourselves, our programs and our services. We will call ourselves the Y to align with how most people refer to us.

A new logo is part of the visual identity system. The red and black Y logo has been in place since 1967 and was the organization's sixth since its inception. The refreshed logo, with multiple color options and a new, contemporary look, better reflects the vibrancy of the Y and the diversity of the communities it serves. The new logo's bold, active and welcoming shape symbolizes the Y's commitment to personal and social progress.

The brand revitalization is much more than a logo changes. Like many organizations, we were caught in our own acronyms, jargon and names. We were so many things to so many people, we were not known for any one cause. Starting today, we want to be known as a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to strengthening the foundations of our communities.

The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life, all working side-by-side to ensure everyone, regardless of gender, income or background, has the opportunity to live life to the fullest. We are personally committed to understanding what our neighborhoods need. We exist to bring communities closer together.

Stay tuned! This is an exciting time for the Y movement, together, we continue to strengthen the foundations of our communities we serve!
