Certifications & Training

We offer ARC Lifeguard training courses classes to people in our community. Individuals who complete the prerequisite swimming skills are permitted to sign up for the Lifeguard Training course. This is a Blended Learning class and will require online training on a computer or tablet. Bring proof of age, a bathing suit, and a towel. Must turn 15 years old before the last day.

Non-Members: $5.00/date   

Participants must successfully complete all pre-screening skills and be 15 years or older to register for Lifeguard Certification classes.

Prerequisite swimming skills needed to pass the pre-screening test for updated ARC Lifeguarding R.24 Course:

  1. Swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: incudes jumping into water and totally submerging, swimming 150 yds, 2 minutes of treading only using legs, swimming an additional 50 yards; may use goggles; must be completed with either front crawl or breaststroke –swimming on back and side are not permitted.
  1. Timed Event: Swim 20 yards, Surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick and swim 20 yards holding brick with both hands and keeping face at or near the surface so able to get a breath, & exit water without using ladder or steps, without goggles (within 1 minute and 40 secs.).

 

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD COURSE – BLENDED LEARNING:

Individuals who complete the prerequisite swimming skills are permitted to sign up for the Lifeguard Training course. This is a Blended Learning class and will require online training on a computer or tablet. Bring proof of age, a bathing suit, and a towel. Must turn 15 years old before the last day.

YMCA Members: $275.00

Non-Members: $325.00

100% Attendance required for ALL scheduled dates

  • Individuals who complete the prerequisite swimming skills are eligible to sign up for the Lifeguard Training course. This is a Blended Learning class and will require online training to be done on a computer or tablet and virtual class sessions on Zoom as well as in-person manikin and water rescue skills.
  • Successful performance of the Prescreening skills and be 15 years old.
  • Successful completion of assignments, written test, and water skills are required for certification. The course includes all the up-to-date course/materials for Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Fee includes ARC LG manual, pocket mask and fanny pack and certification fee

 

Recertification for those with a current (not expired past 30 days) certification card in ARC Lifeguard, First Aid, & Pro CPR/AED training. Come in prepared to perform all the skills from the 2024 Lifeguarding Manual. Must complete one pre-screening session.

Please bring: bathing suit, towel, proof of certification, copy of the most recent 2024 Lifeguarding Manual (available for purchase), adult and pediatric resuscitation masks (available for purchase)

WATERFRONT LIFEGUARD MODULE
 
Upgrade to Waterfront for those with a current (not expired) American Red Cross only certification card in Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED. Includes 6 –8 hours in water and classroom
 
Please Bring: bathing suit, towel, proof of certification, copy of the most recent 2024 Lifeguarding Manual (available for purchase), adult and pediatric resuscitation masks (available for purchase)

Waterfront Lifeguarding Swimming skills pre-screening test:

1. Swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest: includes jumping into water and totally submerging, swimming 350 yards, 2 minutes of treading only using legs, swimming an additional 200 yards; may use goggles; must be completed with either front crawl or breaststroke –swimming on back and side are not permitted.

2. Timed Event - Swim 20 yards, Surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick and swim 20 yards holding brick with both hands and keeping face at or near the surface so able to get a breath, & exit water without using ladder or steps without goggles (within 1 minute and 40 secs.).

3. Complete a submerge and retrieve exercise - Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence.
